School Trips

At Saltergate, we believe that learning extends far beyond the classroom walls. Our school trips provide children with exciting, hands-on experiences that enrich their understanding of the world, build confidence, and create lasting memories. From local outings to adventurous residential stays, our trips are carefully planned to support the curriculum and offer valuable opportunities for personal growth.

For trips that involve a cost to the school, we kindly ask for voluntary donations via ParentPay to help make these experiences possible for all children. Below, you’ll find some examples of the trips our students have enjoyed, some of which are completely free.

Harlow Carr - Year 3

Harlow Carr is an inspiring garden with a hugely diverse range of horticulture. Our Year 3 pupils visit for an exciting day of active learning which supports the teaching about plants in the science curriculum. The children have a wonderful time exploring the beautiful environment and also engage in a workshop for some true hands on learning! The day’s activities enable the children to understand the lifecycle of plants, from seed to shoot, to flower and fruit. They investigate the fascinating ways that plants make and disperse seeds to reproduce and discover plants in different stages of life. Outdoor learning is a fantastic way to both gain knowledge in a meaningful way and also give children a connection with nature which benefits their physical and mental health.

Yorkshire Sculpture Park - Year 1 and 2

We are very lucky to be able to access the Yorkshire Sculpture Park for visits with our Key Stage 1 children. This amazing location offers our children the opportunity to explore exciting and dynamic sculpture both indoors and outdoors. The children encounter works by artists from many countries around the world, enabling them to engage with different cultures and approaches. There are around 90 sculptures in the 500 acres of beautiful landscape!

Harrogate Library

All students in the Junior School visit the library during the school year. We have a fantastic relationship with the library and are keen to ensure every child has the opportunity to visit and borrow books.

Young Voices

Miss Wells leads this trip annually.  Children are invited to join the after-school club in the Autumn Term where they practise their songs in readiness for the concert in February.  This has proved extremely popular each year and parents are also invited to attend the concert in Sheffield.

Bewerley Park Residential Trip - Year 6

In 2024, the children from Year 6 experienced a residential adventure at Bewerley Park at the end of the Autumn 1 term.  They took part in some new activities that were exciting, fun and challenging. These included both wet and dry outdoor pursuit activities such as, canoeing, kayaking, climbing, orienteering and high and low rope activities.

Participating in these activities enables the children to push and challenge themselves to achieve new goals as well as overcoming fears.  The children learnt how to work as a team to complete tasks successfully and this helped them to improve their relationships for their final year at Saltergate.
