Saltergate Values

At Saltergate, we value kindness and respect – we believe that these should thread through every aspect of school life. These values are underpinned by British Values, which are taught to all pupils. We want our children to grow into strong and respectful members of society, ready to contribute to their local, and the wider, community.

Saltergate is a Federation of two vibrant and busy schools, where children from aged 2 to 11 learn and grow together. We celebrate each of our children as an individual and welcome their unique contribution to our Saltergate family. We treasure diversity within our school family and value our differences.

We aim to be a safe and happy place for all our pupils, where their mental and physical health is nurtured. Relationships are the foundation of everything we do; children are known as individuals by their teachers and teaching is planned carefully to meet their needs.

Our youngest children are taught our Golden Rules and we encourage them to follow these, to ensure that our school is a safe and happy place.

In Key Stage 2, the children are taught about the 5 R’s. These qualities help them to build upon their learning and to develop the skills to learn and grow.

The Saltergate 5 R's

In Key Stage 2, our children are taught about the 5 R’s. We want to encourage all our pupils to be:

Responsible

Taking responsibility for their own actions and behaviour

Taking a responsible attitude towards their environment, starting with their home and their school and then the world around them and beyond

Resilient

Maintaining a positive approach to learning and tackling challenges and set backs with confidence and determination

Recognising that everyone faces difficulties and that we all need to persist and continue working at things which are tricky

Resourceful

Working in a creative way to solve problems and suggest ideas, contributing to the life of the school

Using resources carefully and thoughtfully, sharing and recognising the impact we have on the environment

Respectful

Respecting ourselves by looking after our mental and physical health and asking for help when we need it

Showing respect for others in all that we do, viewing differences as positive and learning from one another

Valuing what is important to others and showing care and recognition through our language and our behaviour

Reflective

Learning from experiences and considering how we can grow and improve

Recognising our mistakes and accepting that we learn from them

Considering how our words and actions impact others and being mindful of the difference that we can make

Aims and purposes of learning in our schools

We aim to:

  • Provide all our children with a safe and happy school in which learning is valued as an enjoyable experience

  • Provide a stimulating and well resourced environment so that high standards can be reached

  • Offer children an environment where they are able to be healthy and have a good sense of well being, promoted through all aspects of the curriculum as well as designated programmes

  • Create an environment where children appreciate the satisfaction to be gained from attending school regularly, hard work, persistence, and personal and class and whole school achievement

  • Help children to further develop moral values, and the confidence to make considered decisions, developing habits of self-discipline and acceptable behaviour

  • Help children develop the social skills and empathy required to establish good relationships with other children and adults, in work and play situations, working co-operatively together

  • Work with children to develop an awareness of self, sensitivity and tolerance towards others, respecting and appreciating each other's feelings, views and capabilities

  • Encourage a sense of community within the school, which promotes mutual responsibility, further developed by involvement in the wider community

  • Encourage children to extend their range of interests and natural enthusiasm, allowing them to develop as individuals, with confidence and self-esteem

  • Nurture the partnership role between Governors, School, and Home believing that close co-operation between these parties is for the absolute benefit of the children for whom we are jointly responsible
