Rossett News Update - 7 March 2025
New Partnership with Harrogate Town AFC
We are very excited to announce an exciting new partnership with Harrogate Town AFC, which will see our school become the official home of the new Harrogate Town Football Academy.
Rotary Young Artist Competition
Our Year 12 students, Adam, Daisy and Tom, had a lovely evening at the Mercer Art Gallery this week, celebrating their artwork.
They received highly commended certificates in the Rotary Young Artist competition after creating some stunning work which was on display in the gallery.
International Women's Day
International Women’s Day takes place every year on the 8th of March to celebrate women’s success, challenge discrimination, and share knowledge to move towards gender equality. This year’s theme was #AccelerateAction, drawing attention to the urgency of making faster, more effective strides towards gender equality, and how we can all take actions to positively impact women’s advancement.
Seven girls from Year 8 were invited to attend a brilliant event at Asda's Merchandising Centre of Excellence in Leeds on Thursday to celebrate this important day. The event was a mixture of inspiring keynote speeches from women throughout the business, working in a range of departments from property to store design, merchandising to petrol stations, social value to equality, diversity and inclusion.
Every speaker shared their personal story, the difficulties they have overcome, and the work that they are to doing to pave the way for employees of the future. Our students got to play equality-themed bingo, design a store of the future, understand the impact of consumer choices on biodiversity across the world, and talk about how they can start to develop the skills employers are looking for through school, hobbies and volunteering. The day was a great success and our students were an absolute credit to Rossett.
Acoustic Night 2025
What a fantastic evening last night, we were treated to an amazing variety of performances from students across all year groups, showcasing incredible talent. A special shout out to our outgoing Year 11 students – this marks the final performance at Rossett for many them.
Thank you to Mr Durbin and Mr Jansen for organising such a memorable evening.
Our next musical extravaganza will be the Rossett production of Grease in July, watch this space for more details!
French Food Tasting Afternoon
Well done to our Year 11 linguists who took part in Thursday's GCSE Revision / French Food Tasting afternoon. They worked relentlessly for the entire session and completed key revision to achieve top grades.
The main event, however, was the delicious French food!
Thanks to the amazing Madame Halliday (Rossett's French Language Assistant), the afternoon was a huge success, and students were able to sample snails, truffles, Carambar, tarte au citron, baguette, madeleine cakes, 'real' pain au chocolat, and much, much more! Year 11 enjoyed experiencing both new flavours and a French way of eating.

Languages Club Cafe
The Languages Cafe was a huge success on Tuesday, there was a real buzz in the MFL department.
Our amazing Languages Club students hosted the event, interviewing Rossett staff members in Spanish and French for the next issue of their magazine, 'La Vie/Vida de Rossett', focusing on the topic of festivals. And what better day than Mardi Gras to hold our event.
Students had baked and brought in some delicious treats including churros, crêpes, petits beurres, tortas Ines Rosales, madeleines, chocodiles and a special Kosovan cake. They gained confidence with their speaking skills and were delighted to practise with our school community. We're very proud of our linguists and can't wait to see the interviews in the next edition of the magazine.
Tree Planting
We have managed to secure 345 saplings to plant in the school grounds. This is an exciting project that will create a beautiful outside space that supports a positive learning environment – blending education with nature.
Whilst the planting will be carried out by students, it is also a fantastic opportunity for community involvement, hopefully from someone with expertise in this area.
